Atos Global GAAD Event (Virtual)

On Thursday 19th of May Atos will host its 8th annual event to celebrate the Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). Global Accessibility Awareness Day is an awareness day focusing on digital access and inclusion for the more than one billion people with disabilities and impairments. The purpose of GAAD is to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access and inclusion. Our aim in Atos this year is to discuss how we can achieve accessibility at scale.

Neurodiversity in the Workplace (Private/Internal)

Disability inclusion consultant Margaux Joffe will present on Neurodiversity in the workplace. Marguax is an award-winning producer, certified accessibility professional, and the founder of the Kaleidoscope Society for Women with ADHD. In 2017 she helped Yahoo launch the technology industry’s first Neurodiversity Employee Resource Group (ERG) to create a more inclusive workplace for minds of all kinds. She currently facilitates a professional development program for adults with ADHD.

Non-Visual Web Browsing: Beyond Web Accessibility (In Person)

Old Dominion University Libraries will celebrate GAAD 2022 by hosting a talk with Professor Vikas Ashok titled “Non-Visual Web Browsing: Beyond Web Accessibility”. Professor Ashok leads the Accessible Computing Lab at Old Dominion University. The group’s research focuses on accessible computing, an interdisciplinary field that crosscuts Human-Computer Interaction and Artificial Intelligence.

Highlights of Autonomous Vehicles / NFB Keynote Replay from ICT 2022 (Virtual)

The 2022 ICT Accessibility Testing Symposium takes place in person/online May 17 and 18. As part of GAAD on May 19, we will be replaying NFB President Mark Riccobono’s Keynote “Experiences as a Test Driver: The Blind Driver Challenge and its impact on technology, accessibility, and new possibilities for independence”. We then host a recap discussion of this year’s conference sessions addressing accessibility testing and Autonomous Vehicles, and plans for R&D in this area in the future.

GAAD at Weston College: Creating Accessible Content (In Person)

In recognition of GAAD, the Weston College Learning Technology team will be hosting an interactive online session on digital accessibility for teaching and business staff across the organisation. The session will cover the importance of accessibility and how to apply the WCAG 2.1 POUR principles when creating documents, presentations and other digital content.
