We are inviting internal employees to an event where we talk about the importance of shifting left to include accessibility throughout the project lifecycle. We will show examples of how it has helped within the company and ask team members to find and send evidence from their work that they are as well. There will be a chance of winning prizes and it will be a fun, light event for those participating.

Our first event for accessibility day last year worked out great, so we’ll continue on in 2024 with hands-on improvements to the accessibility of bitcoin software used in the wild. We’re still planning, but will likely have an introductory work-session and then facilitate test, review, and report sessions. In celebration of GAAD, join us for an all-day workshop, Stem to Stern Accessibility. Whether you work in a large or small organization, follow an agile or waterfall process, are experienced or just starting out, this workshop will guide you toward reliably developing accessible and usable products. This workshop is structured to be inclusive and engaging to all skill sets and levels. Through a mix of lecture and highly interactive group work, this workshop covers everything from the beginning to the end in developing a high quality, accessible product. This includes product requirements, procurement, design, development, release, maintenance, and support.

Das Interesse, Technologien für Menschen mit Behinderungen zugänglich und nutzbar zu machen, ist bei vielen Unternehmen bereits vorhanden. Allerdings besteht oft Unsicherheit darüber, welche Schritte und Ressourcen dafür erforderlich sind. Mit unserer Veranstaltung möchten wir daher nicht nur verdeutlichen, wie wichtig Barrierefreiheit für alle Nutzer:innen ist, sondern auch ganz konkrete Vorgehensweisen aufzeigen, wie Barrierefreiheit umgesetzt wird und dass dies nur im Team gelingen kann. Nach einer einleitenden Impulsevortrag werden die Teilnehmenden in Kleingruppen aufgeteilt. Gemeinsam identifizieren sie Barrieren auf einer Website und lernen dabei Anforderungen, Checklisten und Prüfwerkzeuge kennen. Die Gruppenarbeit ist als Rollenspiel konzipiert, wodurch verschiedene Perspektiven im Entwicklungsprozess hervorgehoben werden. Dies fördert den spielerischen Austausch über die vielfältigen Anforderungen der Barrierefreiheit. Während der Gruppenarbeit stehen den Teams Barrierefreiheits-Expert:innen zur Seite. „Welches Tool kann ich benutzen? Was muss ich beachten? Wie kann ich eine Barriere identifizieren? – mit diesen und weiteren Fragen werden sich die Teilnehmer:innen in unserem Workshop auseinandersetzen.  Im Anschluss an die Kleingruppenarbeit werden die Erkenntnisse präsentiert und diskutiert. Jedes Team stellt seine Konzepte vor, die anschließend durch alle Teilnehmenden bewertet werden.

Live conference aimed at rising awareness and competences, supported by examples of good practices and practical advices. Topics will focus on digital accessibility, which will have its own separate tier and on accessible environment and accessible public transport in the primary tier. Accessibility professionals from Slovenia, users with disabilites, companies with experience in development of accessible products are just few who will actively participate and transfer their knowledge and experience. The conference is organised by Institute for Digital Accessiblity A11Y.s, Centre for the Beletrina Institute, european resource centre on accessibility Accessible EU and NSIOS.

Apple and iStores in South Africa celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day on 16 May 2024 by hosting an online Apple Accessibility session for iStore employee’s. Apple is a leader in technological accessibility. Training iStore staff on the immense value of an Apple device for a disabled individuals is a vital component in the stores inclusion and value of Apple products. In this session, employee’s will be introduced to one of Apple’s key values: accessibility. The session will include why accessibility is important, learn key guidelines to engage with customers with disabilities and discover some key accessibility features, demos and resources. In addition to further training of store staff, iStores offer individual accessibility sessions to assist disabled individuals in setting up their accessible device. Target audience: iStore staff in Africa 2 online sessions.
