Dag van de Digitale Toegankelijkheid (Activity)

28 Jun 2025 | 1:00 AM-12:00 PM Europe/Amsterdam (Netherlands)

Counting down to GAAD 2025! In the Netherlands, we’ve launched a similar initiative in Q4 2024: Day of Digital Accessibility (in Dutch: Dag van de Digitale Toegankelijkheid, DvdDT) on Saturday, June 28, 2025. This date was chosen with purpose: it marks the official start of the European Accessibility Act (EAA). As you likely know, the EAA legally requires companies and organizations to make their digital products and services accessible — for everyone, including people with disabilities. But: the EAA isn’t just for policymakers or IT professionals. It’s not about how, what en why. It’s about everyone’s right — as a citizen, consumer, or customer — to access digital information, services, shops, apps, and more. That’s why raising awareness among the general public is so important. Dag van de Digitale Toegankelijkheid exists to show people — from citizens to businesses — that this is about you. From June 28 onwards, you have a right to a digitally accessible world. And only together can we make that happen. DvdDT is not a one-off marketing stunt. We’ve got years of work ahead of us. Because this is about structural change. Not just more attention, but more action. Not just for people with disabilities — but for everyone. We want to encourage a bottom-up movement, starting with the awareness that everyone has the right to digital accessibility. As awareness grows and demand increases, we hope this will motivate every web developer, designer, and content creator to put this topic firmly on the agenda and integrate it into their workflows and procedures. Day of Digital Accessibility is, just like the platform Start DUIT, part of the DUIT Foundation — a non-profit organization with ANBI status (Public Benefit Organization). DUIT stands for Digitale Uitdaging / Uitvoering Inclusie en Toeagankelijkheid (Digital Challenge / Implementation of Inclusion and Accessibility).
