GAAD at UNTHSC (In Person)

To commemorate Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), the Division of Academic Innovation is hosting an event showcasing simulations of various disabilities to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital access and inclusion for the more than 1 billion people with disabilities/impairments worldwide. Activities will include low vision simulation, demonstration of orientation and mobility practices, demonstration of assistive technology devices, and first hand experience with service and therapy animals. The UNTHSC Office of Disability Access will be there to provide information on services available to students with disabilities. Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth, Canine Companions, and PAWS are participating organizations in this event. Jesteś koordynator dostępności w swojej instytucji. Czujesz się nieco zagubiony, nie wiesz jak się do tego zabrać. Pomożemy Ci, polecając strony internetowe, media społecznościowe, szkolenia, wydawnictwa, aplikacje i programy, które mogą ci się przydać w Twojej pracy. Szkolenie jest bezpłatne. GAAD Slovenia 2023 (In Person)

First GAAD event in Slovenia. Live conference. The conference is designed to raise awareness (World Accessibility Awareness Day) and inform about key requirements, needs and problems, and of course also supported by examples of good practices, guidelines for successful solutions and a look ahead. Topics will focus on the state of digital accessibility in Slovenia, legislation, accessibility standards – WCAG, user experience, the public sector, examples of good practice, planned actions, future activities. Speakers come from different organisations. From government representatives, best accessibility professionals in Slovenia, users with disabilities and those who allready have experience of achieving final goals: accessible web sites and applications. The conference is organised by the Institute for Digital Accessibility A11Y.si, the Beletrina Institute and the Ministry for Digital Transformation of the Republic of Slovenia.

Rakuten Americas GAAD Mini-Convention (Private/Internal)

This GAAD, Rakuten’s RakAbility ERG is holding a mini-conference for Rakuten Americas employees on topics relating to digital accessibility, design, testing, and more! We hope these talks will help attendees understand the need for more accessible products, and how to build them. We are excited to have four professionals from the Accessibility industry joining us to share their expertise and wisdom on a variety of topics, including Miriam Nabinger, Dan Tevelde, Albert Kim and others.
Awareness campaign through 50 personal profiles on Instagram (Activity)

Every year, the AccessBoost course (about digital accessibility) participates in some way with GAAD promotion actions. This year the action will be different and unprecedented. Through 50 profiles (of friends and acquaintances), at 9 am on May 18, 2023, posts will be published with a black screen (with nothing written) and only the following caption: “This post contains the alternative text “. There will only be the alternative text explaining the campaign. We know that many people will not know what it is about this will generate curiosity. After 1 hour of the post, all profiles will include a response informing what the campaign was about and the importance of having alternative text in posts on social networks. There will be the dissemination of both the GAAD and the AccessBoost courses.
Accessibility? Nothing hard. Training in digital accessibility and simple language for Gov.pl editors (Private/Internal)

Gov.pl is the official portal of the Polish government, which provides easy access to reliable information and public services online. It is a portal for everyone, without exception, which is why digital accessibility and simple language are so important to us. How do we do it? On a daily basis, we take care of the knowledge and skills of editors who run websites on Gov.pl. We organize regular trainings where we show how to create an accessible portal. We have planned one of such internal trainings on the occasion of the World Accessibility Awareness Day on May 18, 2023. We invited Gov.pl editors from all over Poland.
