Transcend Tech: Afterthought – Is It Ever Too Late for Accessibility?

In 2023, a stark fact remains: 96% of the top 1 million website home pages are not accessible. Making digital products truly usable for all – is that still an add-on, a nice-to-have? Or is accessibility itself not accessible? A binary of right and wrong getting in the way of taking things from bad to better. And if accessibility is an afterthought – is it ever truly too late? Join us for an engaging panel discussion exploring the importance of web accessibility and why it’s never too late to improve it. Our expert panellists will share their insights and experiences on the topic and discuss strategies and best practices for making websites more accessible. During this event, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the impact of web accessibility on users with disabilities and understand the benefits of creating a more inclusive online environment. The panellists will also discuss common barriers to web accessibility and provide practical advice for overcoming them. Whether you’re a web developer, designer, content creator, or simply interested in creating more accessible websites, this event is for you. You’ll leave with a greater understanding of why web accessibility is so important, and the tools and knowledge you need to make your own web products and services more accessible. Panellists – Kevin White – Accessibility Development and Operations Lead, W3C – Fiona Brook – Content Designer, Accessibility SME, Accenture – Rashmi Kakde – Senior Design Researcher, Accessibility advocate, Infinity Works, part of Accenture – Simon S Ellis – Accessibility SME, Accenture (TBC) Moderator James Colbeck, Senior Design Consultant – Infinity Works, part of Accenture

Why Accessibility Matters to Your Business

In honor of Global Accessibility Awareness Day coming up on May 18th, join Overit and Disability Rights New York for a panel discussion on why accessibility matters to business owners, marketers, and digital/web professionals. Boulder Global Accessibility

The Boulder/CO UX Research Meetup is excited to host a session for this year’s annual Global Accessibility Awareness Day! We will be jumping right in to explain the “so what” of accessibility– what impact inaccessible content has on users, why it matters, and what you can do about it. Alaina Beaver, our Meetup founder and accessibility SME, will facilitate this session. We’ll talk through considerations for building more inclusive research so that we can mindfully recruit and anticipate the needs of people with disabilities (PWD) in our studies. We’ll also do some live demos using automated testing tools and make sure you leave the session with a variety of tools and tips to help you be more accessibility-minded in your everyday life! Please feel free to spread the word, and look forward to seeing you–in person this time!–for this session. Slides will be made available for everyone afterwards. Please let us know if you need any accommodations so that you can participate fully. We’re happy to do our best to include everyone!

Global Accessibility Awareness Day – Open House

Join us for an open house event where you will learn about accessibility resources available from your St. Tammany Parish Library. The featured resource for the day is a TAPit, or Touch Accessible Platform Interactive Technology device. TAPit is the first ADA compliant interactive learning station designed to recognize the difference between an arm resting upon the screen and a finger or assistive device intentionally tapping an image. Providing an optimal interface for patrons with special needs to use at their own pace, TAPit helps reinforce skills that can be transferred to other computer-based learning applications using the Internet, educational software or communication devices.
