CAPAL’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines COP Webinar

The Canadian Association of Professional Academic Librarians’ Web Content Accessibility Guidelines community of practice is hosting a webinar presented by Gregg Vanderheiden (PhD), Professor in the College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland. University and college libraries are trying to support students of all ages and abilities including a surprisingly large number who have invisible cognitive, language, and learning (CLL) disabilities. Although many think of accessibility as just for people with disabilities, there are many strategies that can make computers easier to use that are more subtle — and that can be useful to all users.

BBC Access All Areas

The British Broadcasting Company (BBC), annually supports GAAD with the national BBC Access All Areas event, hosted by the BBC Digital Accessibility teams. On 17th May 2018, we are live streaming between two events held at BBC offices London W1 and Salford, UK.

VisAbility Facebook Live Video Presentation and Chat

VisAbility will hold an online Facebook live-streaming video on the importance of digital accessibility in celebration of the 7th Annual Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) on Thursday 17th of May 2018 at 3pm.

The purpose of GAAD is to get everyone to talk, think and learn about digital accessibility and inclusion. Two team members from the Accessible Information Services (AIS) and Assistive Technology departments at VisAbility will discuss what accessibility is and why it is important to include it in digital projects (web, software, devices). They will also answer to questions and discuss a few ways you can get the best out of built-in accessibility features in mainstream devices.
