Accessible Intelligence: The New AI will be a LIVE Blindspot Podcast conversation presented by VisioTech in recognition of Global Accessibility Awareness Day. This special event will serve as the concluding experience and celebration for the Systems & Technology Intelligence Labs 26 Base Camp, powered by the Watson Institute and the Truist Foundation. STIL 26 Base Camp will bring together community members, educators, technology leaders, accessibility advocates, students, and professionals through a series of trainings and conversations focused on artificial intelligence, accessibility, cybersecurity, civic innovation, and responsible technology systems. The live podcast conversation will explore how artificial intelligence can remain accessible, ethical, human centered, and inclusive as AI becomes more integrated into education, workplaces, government systems, and everyday life. Featured speakers will include Tiffani Martin, Founder and CEO of VisioTech, alongside Synge Tyson. Both are blind technology professionals whose lived experience and industry expertise will help ground the discussion in real world accessibility and usability. The live audience will include high school interns from South Dallas and surrounding communities participating in The GEMS Camp AI Good for the Neighborhood program alongside subject matter experts and community leaders. The internship program combines AI literacy, accessibility, workforce readiness, research, and real world collaboration while bringing together participants with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities. This event will highlight the importance of ensuring people with disabilities are included not only as users of emerging technologies, but as leaders, researchers, educators, and innovators helping shape the future of AI.

How do you move beyond theory and really help people “get” accessibility? In this special Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) session of Workday’s Accessibility Level Up series, Joe Rogers and Greg Aikens share how Workday built an experiential accessibility lab from the ground up and how you can adapt these ideas within your own organization. We’ll cover what an accessibility lab is (and what it is not), lessons learned from Workday’s lab journey, and examples of how other companies like Accenture, Microsoft, and Google have approached similar spaces. You’ll come away with practical considerations, pitfalls to avoid, and ideas for using labs to drive lasting culture change, deeper empathy, and better digital products for people with disabilities.

A dive into interactive web maps and a screen reader user’s experience. The State of Minnesota’s Office of Accessibility will host a conversation between a screen reader user and a map maker to discuss key accessibility questions including: Are some types of web maps easier to use than others? What are common barriers for screen reader users when using web maps? How can map designers/creators make maps more accessible? Are there certain “cheat codes” that assistive technology (AT) users can use when navigating web maps? Is it ok for web map creators to create custom navigation for their maps?
