The Hearing and Speech Agency of Baltimore will host a virtual ASL workshop for 3Play Media employees at 4pm EST. Participants should note this event requires cameras ON due to the visual nature of ASL – participation is not mandatory, but is encouraged!
This one-hour American Sign Language (ASL) class will cover common conversational ASL basics and touch upon cultural awareness aspects of Deaf community members. Students should arrive prepared to participate and learn ASL signs with HASA’s amazing Deaf instructors, as well as cultural tips (e.g., appropriate gestures and body language). This class teaches effectively communicating strategies in ASL, but also to some “dos and dont’s” when interacting with members of the Deaf community.

Catalyst’s Accessibility Team is organising an event for staff to raise awareness of and empathy for different types of disabilities. The activities are navigating a screen reader while blindfolded, folding origami with an arm in a sling, and filling in a transcript for a muted video. While it’s not possible to fully simulate the struggles of the disabled and chronically ill communities, the games will attempt to show the frustration in daily activities when you are impaired in some way.
