Rally on GAAD

A Step Toward an Inclusive Society: Samphia Holds Awareness Rally for Accessibility of Persons with Disabilities On the occasion of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Samphia, an organization dedicated to the welfare of children with disabilities, organized an impactful awareness rally on the famous Mall Road of Manali. The rally was flagged off by Naib Tehsildar Manali, Mr. Hukam Ram. The rally aimed to draw public attention to the importance of accessibility in public spaces for persons with disabilities (PwDs) and to encourage shopkeepers and citizens to make their surroundings more inclusive and accessible. Around 150 students from Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Manali enthusiastically participated in the rally. Holding posters and slogans related to accessibility, the students marched along Mall Road, engaging the public and raising awareness. Tahsildar Welfare Officer Mr. Rajeev and Principal of GSSS Manali, Mrs. Pushpa, were also present during the event. Both officials praised Samphia’s initiative, calling it a commendable and much-needed step toward inclusion and disability awareness in society. Dr. Rekha Thakur, Director of Samphia, shared, “At Samphia, we not only offer various therapy services to children with disabilities but also consistently organize awareness programs to sensitize the community about disability-related issues.” Mr. Beeju, Program Manager at Samphia, added, “The primary aim of today’s rally was to focus public attention on accessibility so that all shops and establishments on Mall Road become friendly and usable for people with disabilities. Samphia will continue organizing such awareness campaigns in the future.” The presence of Sumit and Krishan, two wheelchair users, added a powerful and emotional dimension to the event. They addressed the public, sharing their lived experiences of facing daily challenges due to the lack of accessible infrastructure. Their heartfelt appeal to the local community to support accessibility efforts deeply resonated with the crowd. At the conclusion of the rally, all participants and citizens collectively pledged to work toward building an inclusive and accessible society. Conclusion: The awareness rally organized by Samphia not only served as a vital means of public sensitization but also stood as a symbol of hope and commitment toward creating a society where everyone—regardless of physical ability—can live with dignity, independence, and equal opportunity.
